Best of 08?
I missed last year b/c I fell out of the blogging world. But now, as I should be doing work, I'll make my list up now.
Music:
Best Albums of 2008
1. She & Him - Volume One
2. The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
3. Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue
4. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
5. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
6.Kate Nash - Made of Bricks (came out in 07- but I listened to it so much this year and I didn't make a list last year, so I'm counting it!)
7. The Ting Ting's - We Started Nothing
8. Conor Oberst - Conor Oberst
9. Flight of the Conchords - Flight of the Conchords
10. Medeski, Martin & Wood - Radiolarian
Close Runner ups:
1. John Mayer - Where the light is
2. Beck - Modern Guilt
3. Britney Spears - Circus
(HA! Just kidding, but womanizer is a great song to listen to if you wish you had a cd player that skipped constantly)
I don't feel like doing songs right now, because they'd probably be from all the above named albums, and there are more than one on each so lets just say those albums topped my list all around.
Most Disappointing albums:
1. Jason Mraz - We Sing, We Dance, We steal things.
I like the first 2, maybe 3 songs. The rest of the album makes me feel kinda dirty and I just don't know why.
2. Thats about it...I can't say I have much good to say about that Coldplay album even though everyone seems to love it. The songs were kinda sleepy and whatever mixing they did to it makes it hard to hear. I will often stop on a song if I hear it on the radio, but it is not in heavy rotation on the ipod, I'll say that.
BEST LIVE PERFORMANCES
1. She and Him at Newport Folk Festival (others were good too, but this one was my favorite- although we got soaking wet!)
2. Cake- Starland Ballroom
3. Galactic - Irving Plaza
4. Derek Trucks - Starland Ballroom
5. Jack's Mannequin - RAMAPO!! (only b/c it was great atmosphere and nice that he came home to us)
FILM/TV
Best movies of 08 (saw some oldies, so they go in here too!)
1. Pineapple Express
2. Batman- The Dark Knight
3. Stepbrothers
4. Death Proof (I resisted, then I saw the light)
5. Criminal ( John C. Reilly)
Best TV Shows
1. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
2. The office
3. Project Runway (Season 4) (2007)
4. LOST
5. The Daily Show
Worst TV Shows
1. Project Runway (Season 6...KENLY YOU HAVE FOREVER RUINED PR!)
2. Anything MTV put out this year (Paris Hilton's my new bff, anything Hills related, That desert island show of real world/road rules(does that show even exist anymore?) cast members, sex with mom and dad...etc.
3. Entourage. Vince has no job. Vince get job. Vince lose job. Eric and Ari fight and make up. Lloyd is gay. Vince has job? Rinse, repeat.
Middle of the road:
1. Degrassi. You know I will always love you and you going every which way. But I cannot keep up with all your new characters. All the little brothers and sister, Sav?, curly blonde headed kid, guy that looks like bil..I just can't take you all seriously. It might as well be called Degrassi: The newer new generation. This is kind of like when Saved by the bell tried to continue on and casted all those new kids to rule the halls of bayside. I think you're only getting away with it because you're canadian. But I need more backstory. That kid Danny went from young jerk to older nice kid and I have no idea why. What changed him? And how- of all the characters to keep around from the old season, do you only give us Emma, Manny and Liberty? Those are the 3 WORST characters and now they're my only hope to cling onto old degrassi. Even though I'm sure you know it was all downhill once Craig left the show. Now that Marco and Ellie are gone too it's basically just watching strangers getting pregnant and breaking up with each other every 5 minutes. Dear Degrassi: Reunion time ASAP.
A look back on my 07 predictions:
1. Borat will finally get old and Chauches will stop saying "HIgH fIVe!"
I think this came true. At least I hope it did.
2. People will get sick of all the pop punk....unless Fall Out Boy revives it again
From what I hear, FOB is still pretty popular. I at least got sick of the Pop punk so score one for me.
3. Some really good indie flicks from Sundance and weird spots
I have no idea? Indie flicks are always pretty good and I'm not really sure if I was thinking of a specific
4. I will be very poor, but hopefully get a good job after graduation
Bingo on the very poor, and got a pretty good job. No advancement on part A.
5. Some serious signs telling us we're all doomed cuz of global warming.
Of course, and we're working on it!
6. Craig Ferguson will be cool.
He is cool, I don't think people notice it though. Maybe with all this latenight reline up stuff though?
7. The Steelers are gonna bounce back from the crappy season and now loss of bill cower and shine once again
Well of course! Mike Tomlin is a great coach, even though they did make the playoffs in 07 they didn't go far. This year is looking good so far provided ben's concussion doesn't affect them too much.
8. The office is gonna be hugeee.
Wasn't it already? Unless I ment the season, which they have had some crazy episodes PB&J!
9. Best. Season. Of. Project. Runway. Yet.
Yes and no. Season 4 was definitely the best ever, but then they followed it right after with the absolute worst, and now this pending season 6
10. Get on the indie music bus.
sure.
New Predictions of 08:
1. Super bowl champs---PITTSBURGH STEELERS!!!!
2. Major job change...hopefully a move into the city with Adam
3. Attend at least 1 wedding?
4. 10 Engagement Announcements
5. Reunite with old friends
6. Fix my record player (should be coming true soon!)
7. I am long overdue for winning something. I think I'll win something this year.
8. The age of Seth Rogan and Judd Apatow will slowly draw to a close (sadness)
9. I will be sucked into becoming a Mets fan.
10. Flight of the Conchords comes back with a vengeance; while Entourage will flush itself down the toilet.
Conclusion:
This year has been something for sure. I had my first full year at my job and found my niche in the non profit sector. Now just to branch out. Gained a lot of self confidence in my skills so I hope to apply them to future jobs. I've been living on my own since aug of 07, and although the first year I had a roomate from hell, this year it's the total opposite getting to live with my best friend (Even though our schedules seem so hectic at times and I feel like I barely see her!). What else. I've definitely learned the art that is budgeting and have used it to somehow still survive on my low salary, even though it may be hard at times. I have an amazing boyfriend who has taught me a lot and I know is always looking out for me. My parents have been going through a lot financially and physically and I hope with all my heart I will be able to help support them as much as they have supported me, especially in these last few years. I took a fun roadtrip to Rhode Island with Adam and I hope we get to do something like that again this year, or at least take a long overdue vacation for the two of us. All in all this year has been filled with a lot of ups and downs, and this coming year I hope to have many more ups than downs, and I think it will. :)
